How to Use the Split Action

Random Split

Purpose:
The Random Split feature allows you to divide your contacts into different paths based on a random distribution. This enables you to test various workflow variations and identify the most effective one.

Features:

  • Random Split: Define specific percentages to send contacts down different paths (e.g., 60% to Path A, 40% to Path B).
  • Multiple Paths: Create up to five separate paths for your contacts.
  • Customizable Path Names: Rename each path to reflect its purpose clearly.
  • Stats Tracking: Access detailed statistics on the number of contacts entering and completing each path, along with their goal conversions.

Getting Started:

  1. Add the Split action to your workflow by clicking the "+" icon and selecting "Split" from the "Internal Tools" category.
  2. In the Split action screen, choose "Random Split" from the Distribution Type dropdown.
  3. Customize your paths:
    • Rename default paths like "Path A" and "Path B" to your preferred names.
    • Set the percentage distribution for each path, ensuring the total equals 100%.
  4. Add up to five paths or remove a path by clicking the "X" icon next to it.
  5. Click the "Statistics" icon to view how many contacts have entered each path.
  6. If "Stats View" is enabled, stats will also be visible within the workflow.

Example of Random Split:

Imagine you have 100 customers entering a workflow. You've set up a Random Split with two paths, Path A and Path B, each with a 50% chance of receiving a customer. This split is akin to flipping a coin: each path has an equal chance of being chosen for each customer.

Here's a possible distribution:

  • Customer 1: Heads, goes to Path A.
  • Customer 2: Tails, goes to Path A (again).
  • Customer 3: Heads, goes to Path B.
  • Customer 4: Tails, goes to Path B (again).
  • Customer 5: Tails, goes to Path B (again).
  • Customer 6: Tails, goes to Path A.

This pattern continues randomly, with each customer having an equal chance of going to either path, independent of previous choices.

Use Cases

Scenario:
You're an e-commerce store owner launching new running shoes. You have two email subject lines: "Fuel Your Run with the Ultimate Shoe" and "Unleash Your Speed: Our Game-Changing Shoes."

Solution:
Utilize the Random Split action to divide your mailing list randomly, say 75/25. Send 75% of your list the "Fuel Your Run" email, and 25% the "Unleash Your Speed" email. Monitor website visits, purchase rates, and other key metrics for each path.

Outcome:
After a set period, analyze the results to determine which subject line led to higher engagement and sales. This data-driven insight will guide your future campaigns.

Points to Note

  • Once a contact takes a path, they will continue on that path. If they re-enter the workflow, they will not switch paths but will follow the original one.
