Understanding Workflow Triggers: Order Submitted vs. Order Form Submission

When working with Stack, it's important to understand the difference between two key workflow triggers: Order Submitted and Order Form Submission. These triggers are essential for managing different stages of your sales and marketing processes.

Overview of Triggers

The distinction between these triggers is primarily about payment:

  • Order Form Submission: Triggered when a customer submits a form with order details, regardless of payment.
  • Order Submitted: Triggered when a payment is completed and an order is finalized.

Each trigger serves a unique purpose in your workflow, helping you manage customer interactions effectively.

Where to Find These Triggers

You can locate both the Order Form Submission and Order Submitted triggers in the Workflow Builder under the Payments section.

Trigger Details

Order Submitted

This trigger activates when a customer completes a payment transaction, such as purchasing a product. It's ideal for automating post-purchase actions.

Use Cases:

  • Automate sending a "Thank you for your purchase" email.
  • Create an invoice or process the payment.
  • Initiate a shipping process or notify your fulfillment team.

Order Form Submission

This trigger is activated when a customer submits an order form without completing a payment. It's useful for capturing leads or gathering information for future follow-ups.

Use Cases:

  • Send an acknowledgment email or thank you for the inquiry.
  • Notify a sales representative that a lead has filled out an order form.
  • Trigger a follow-up sequence to help close the sale.

Key Differences Between Triggers

  • Order Submitted: This trigger is associated with a completed transaction and payment. It doesn't rely on the presence of an order form.
  • Order Form Submission: This trigger is linked to the submission of a form with order details but doesn't require a completed transaction.

Additional Notes

  • Shopping Cart Integration: When the Order Submitted trigger is active, the Shopping Cart element in the Email Template builder will automatically populate with item details from the order.

Understanding these triggers allows you to tailor your workflows in Stack, ensuring that each customer interaction is handled efficiently and effectively.
