What is the Split Action?
The Split Action allows you to distribute contacts into various pathways within your workflow. You can set this distribution based on specific percentages or opt for a random allocation. This feature is particularly useful for testing different workflow versions or balancing workloads across teams.
Note: The Split Action operates with a single criterion: random. You can adjust the percentage of contacts directed down each path. If you need to split contacts based on specific criteria (like order size), consider using the If/Else Action.
Once a contact is assigned to a path, they will continue on that path. If they re-enter the same split, they will not be reassigned but will follow their original path.
How to Use the Split Action
-
Add the Split Action
Navigate to the workflow builder, click the "+" icon to add a new action, then search for Internal > Split. -
Configure the Split Action
Choose "Random Split" from the Distribution Type dropdown (the only option available). -
Configure Paths
- Add or Remove Paths: You can create up to 5 paths, rename them, and set their percentage split.
- Ensure 100% Total: The percentages must add up to 100%. If they don't, you'll receive an error and won't be able to save.
- Set 0% Paths: You can configure paths with a 0% allocation, meaning no contacts will be directed there, as long as the total remains 100%.
-
View Statistics
Access the Action's Statistics tab to monitor how many contacts have entered each path and the overall distribution.
Use Cases
-
A/B Testing: Experiment with different versions of emails, SMS, or other communications. For instance, send 50% of contacts an email with headline A and the other 50% with headline B.
-
Lead Routing: Allocate leads to sales teams or marketing channels based on capacity or expertise. For example, direct 75% to an experienced salesperson and 25% to a trainee.
-
Campaign Optimization: Determine the most effective strategies and adjust future workflows accordingly.
