Workflow Action: Create an Associated Record for Contact

Overview

The Create an Associated Record action in contact-based workflows within Stack allows you to create a new custom object record and link it to a contact. This feature is particularly useful for managing related entities such as properties, contracts, or any other custom objects associated with a contact.

Action Name

Create Associated Record for Contact

Action Description

This action lets you create a new custom object record directly from a workflow and associate it with a contact. The objects available for creation depend on the custom objects configured within your account.

Action Details

To use this action, ensure you have custom objects set up in your account and have created an association label between at least one of these objects and contacts. This action allows you to define multiple fields for the new object record. You can specify an association label to categorize the relationship between the contact and the custom object. The newly created record will automatically link to the contact using the selected label. Additionally, you can use custom values and custom fields—merge fields—to add information to the object.

Example

Consider a solar company that needs to track crucial installation dates, such as:

  • Site Survey Date
  • Install Date

When an opportunity is marked as "Won," the system can automatically create an "Install" custom object record to track these dates.

Example Setup

  • Object Record to Create: Install
  • Fields:
    • Site Survey Date: Auto-filled with today’s date
    • Install Date: Auto-filled based on scheduling
  • Association Label: Installation Scheduled

When triggered, the workflow creates an Install record and links it to the contact for seamless tracking.
