How to Authorize Card Payments in Websites

Overview

In this guide, you'll learn how to set up card payment authorization on your Stack website. This process ensures that funds are available in your client's account before proceeding with a subscription or payment plan.

How Authorization Works

Card payment authorization is an extra step that verifies the availability of funds in a client's account. Here's how it functions:

  • The specified "authorized amount" is temporarily removed from the client's bank account.
  • If the account lacks sufficient funds, the client cannot proceed to the next step.
  • Once authorization is approved, the amount is credited back to the client's account.
  • If your plan includes "Trial days," they will begin as soon as the card is authorized.
  • Note that refunds may take up to 5 business days to reflect in the client's bank account.

Important: Authorization is compatible only with Subscriptions and Payment plans. If you wish to authorize payments for multiple plans, you'll need to set this up for each plan individually.

Setting Up Authorization

Follow these steps to enable card payment authorization on your website:

  1. Locate the Order Form:

    • Navigate to the website section where your order form is placed.
    • Click on the "3 dots" menu.
  2. Access Products:

    • Select "Products" from the menu.
    • If no products are listed, add them before proceeding.
  3. Edit Product Settings:

    • Click on the "Edit" icon next to the product you wish to authorize.
    • For example, you might have a monthly plan ($149) and an annual plan ($1490). Start with one plan and repeat the process for others.
  4. Configure Authorization:

    • Scroll to the bottom and click on "Additional Options."
    • Select "Custom Authorization" and enter the amount you wish to authorize.

Note: The amount you specify will be temporarily deducted from the client's account. Ensure the amount is:

    • Equal to or greater than $1.
    • Rounded to two decimal places.
    • Not a negative number.
  5. Save Changes:

    • Click "Save" to apply the authorization settings.

By following these steps, you'll successfully set up card payment authorization on your Stack website, providing a seamless transaction experience for your clients.
