Understanding the Source Field in Forms and Surveys

The Source Field in Stack forms and surveys is an essential tool for gathering insights about how respondents found your form. Knowing the source of your responses can significantly enhance your understanding of the effectiveness of your marketing strategies, advertising campaigns, or overall outreach efforts.

Adding the Source Element

To include the Source Field in your form, navigate to the Quick Add section. Simply drag and drop the field into your form. On the right side, you can specify a value for the source field. For instance, you might enter "sample lead source." This field remains hidden from users, ensuring it doesn't interfere with their form-filling experience.

Use Cases for the Source Field

Viewing the Source After Submission

Once a form is submitted, the source value you set will appear under the source section. Additionally, this information is accessible under each contact's details as Contact Source.

Passing the Source as a Query Parameter

Another powerful use of the Source Field is passing it as a query parameter in your form or survey link. For example:

https://link.stack.com/widget/form/WKEnUOXEz9J3cpcQyc1M?source=alternative_source

By appending ?source=alternative_source to your form or survey link, you can override the default source value set in the form builder. This means that the submission will record "alternative source" as the source instead of the pre-set "sample lead source."

Utilizing these features can provide deeper insights into where your leads are coming from, allowing you to fine-tune your marketing efforts effectively.
