Private Channels and Channel Emojis in Stack

We're thrilled to introduce two exciting features for community groups in Stack: Private Channels and Channel Emojis. Available on both mobile and web platforms, these enhancements offer greater privacy and customization for your community experience.

New Features

Private Channels

Private Channels are here to help you keep certain content exclusive within your community groups. As a group admin or owner, you can create new private channels or convert existing public ones to private.

How to Use Private Channels

Create a New Private Channel:

  1. Create a new channel.
  2. Toggle the switch to make the channel private.

Convert an Existing Channel to Private:

  1. Open the channel settings.
  2. Navigate to the settings tab.
  3. Click on "Change to Private Channel."

Add Members to a Private Channel:

  1. Open the channel settings again.
  2. Go to the members tab.
  3. Add members to the channel.

Tip: You can assign a member as a channel manager, granting them admin access to that specific channel.

Important Notes

  • The group owner and channel creator are automatically added as channel managers.
  • A channel manager acts as an admin for their specific channel, while broader group roles like owner and group admin do not apply within a private channel.
  • The group owner cannot leave a private channel.
  • Private channels remain invisible in the channel list to users who are not members.

Channel Emojis

Customize your community experience by adding emojis as channel icons. This feature allows you to make your channel icons more fun and visually distinct, enhancing the look and feel of your community space.

Enjoy these new features and make the most of your Stack community!
