Adding Videos to Emails in Stack
In Stack's Email Builder, you can easily incorporate videos into your emails to engage your audience. While videos can't be directly embedded due to email client limitations, Stack offers a clever workaround. The Video element creates a clickable preview image using the video's thumbnail, complete with a play button, linking directly to your video.
How to Use the Video Element
Once you drag and drop a Video element into your email, you'll notice an editor on the left and a new video preview on the right, featuring a play button and a default thumbnail.
Video Editor Features
Video Type
Choose from four video types: YouTube, Vimeo, Wistia, and HTML5. Depending on your choice, Stack will attempt to fetch the video thumbnail and style the play button to match the provider's theme. For example, a YouTube video will display a red play button with a white icon.
Video URL
Enter your video's URL here. If the system can't retrieve the thumbnail, a warning will appear. For instance, entering a YouTube URL while selecting Vimeo as the video type will prompt a warning since the thumbnail fetch will fail.
Note: If a thumbnail fetch fails, the previously fetched image remains. To use a custom thumbnail, first add a video with a suitable thumbnail, then update the video URL. The initial thumbnail will persist unless changed.
Video Thumbnail URL
The editor automatically fills this field with the fetched thumbnail image URL. However, you can replace it with your own by uploading a custom image.
- Replace: Upload and set a custom thumbnail.
- Remove: Delete the default thumbnail.
Width & Height
Adjust the video's dimensions using these fields. If left blank, the video defaults to full width with auto-adjusted height based on the image resolution.
Note: Custom dimensions align the video to the left by default. Unlike images, the video element can't be aligned using the Align attribute, but you can adjust alignment using padding or by placing the video in a multi-column layout.
Padding
Add padding to your video element for better spacing and alignment within your email design.
By following these steps, you can effectively integrate videos into your Stack emails, enhancing your communication and engagement with recipients.
