Guide to Click Tracking in Email Campaigns
Welcome to Stack's guide on click tracking in email campaigns. This feature is a powerful tool to help you understand how recipients interact with your emails.
What is Click Tracking?
Click tracking provides insights into how your email recipients engage with the links in your emails. By enabling this feature, you can:
- Discover which specific links are being clicked.
- Identify which recipients are engaging with your content.
- Determine how many times each link is clicked.
Default Behavior
By default, click tracking is turned off in Stack. To take advantage of this feature, you need to enable it manually for each email campaign.
Why Use Click Tracking?
Understand Subscriber Engagement
Click tracking helps you gauge how subscribers interact with your content. By identifying which links are clicked, you can assess interest levels and tailor your content to better meet your audience's preferences.
Analyze Link Performance
With click tracking, you can analyze which links are most popular among your subscribers. This insight helps you optimize your email layout and content strategy to focus on the most engaging elements.
Where Click Tracking Does Not Work
Click tracking might not function under certain conditions. Here are scenarios where it may not work as expected:
- Disabled Click Performance: If not enabled during the email send or scheduling process, click tracking data won't be collected.
- Test Emails: Click tracking does not apply to test emails. For accurate testing, send a dummy campaign to selected contacts.
- Trigger Links: Currently, click tracking is not supported for trigger links, as they use a centralized tracking system.
- Non-HTTP/HTTPS URLs: Click tracking only functions for URLs starting with
http://orhttps://. Links without these prefixes cannot be tracked. - Unsupported Links: Click tracking does not cover clicks on email addresses (
mailto:) or anchor links. Ensure all links use absolute paths. - System-Generated Links: Links such as preview, unsubscribe, or affiliate links generated by the system won't be tracked.
- Syntax Errors or Typos: Links with errors or typos may break, preventing accurate tracking. Verify all URLs for correctness.
- Magic Links: Links with custom values or fields might not work. Test by sending dummy email campaigns.
