Creating Lookalike Audiences in Ad Manager

This guide will walk you through the steps to create Lookalike Audiences in Stack's Ad Manager and how to utilize them during campaign creation.

Finding the Lookalike Audience Option​

You can find the option to create lookalike audiences during the campaign creation process:

  1. Campaign Creation Flow: In the second step, titled 'Budget and Audience', look under the Audience Controls section for the Intended Audience.
  2. Lookalike Audience Tab: Click on the dropdown labeled 'Create new or select lookalike audience'. The first option will be "Create a Lookalike Audience".

Steps to Create a Lookalike Audience​

A Lookalike Audience is a group of new people who share characteristics with your current customers. Here's how to create one:

  1. Initiate Creation: Click the 'Create a Lookalike Audience' button. A dialog will appear for you to define your new audience.

  2. Data Source: Choose a source from the dropdown:

    • Page: Select from pages integrated with Ad Manager.
    • Custom Audiences: Choose from existing custom audiences within Ad Manager.

  3. Audience Name: Provide a name for easy identification.

  4. Geographic Location: Select a country where you want to find people similar to your source audience. Note that only countries are supported; cities or regions are not available.

  5. Audience Size: Define the size from 0-10%. A smaller percentage (0-1%) closely matches your source audience, while a larger percentage broadens the reach.

  6. Finalize: Click "Create audience". Your new lookalike audience will appear in the dropdown but may not be immediately ready for use.

Understanding Audience States​

Your audience will go through different states before it is ready:

  • Ready: The audience meets all specifications and is available for campaigns.
  • Populating: The audience is being created, which can take 6-24 hours. It will update every 3-7 days once in use.
  • Audience Not Created: If the source audience is too small, you may need to try again with a different audience.

Once your lookalike audience is created and shows as 'Ready' or 'Populating', it will be available in the Lookalike Audience dropdown for campaign creation.
