Creating Associations

Steps to Create Associations

  1. Access the Custom Objects Section:

    • Navigate to Settings > Custom Objects within your Stack account.
    • Select the custom object for which you want to create an association.
    • Click on the Associations tab.
  2. Set Up Labels:

    • Choose either a single label or a pair of labels to define the relationship.
    • Example: To associate a car with its owner, use labels like “Owner” and “Car.”
    • Note: All current associations are many-to-many in nature.
  3. Save and Apply:

    • After setting up the association labels, click Save.
    • These labels can now be used to associate records within your custom objects or between a custom object and a contact.

You can create up to 10 association labels between two contacts or a contact-to-custom object combination.

Managing Associations

View Associations

  • Go to the record details of the custom object.
  • On the right side panel, find the associations listed under the Related Objects section.

Editing Associations

  • To edit an association, select the association label, click on the kebab menu (3 dots icon), and select Edit.
  • You can update the label name, though the internal name remains unchanged.

Removing Associations

  • To remove an association, select the association label, click on the kebab menu (3 dots icon), and choose Delete.
  • Type "DELETE" in the text box and click the delete button.
  • Note: Deletion is possible only if there are no existing relations between different records using the specified label.

Initiate the Association Process

  • On the right-hand side panel, locate the Related Objects section.

  • In the association setup window, choose the object to associate with the current record. This can be another custom object or a contact.
  • Select the labels you want to associate the two objects with.
  • Confirm the setup by clicking Save.

Finalizing the Association

  • The association will appear under the Related Objects section of the record’s details.
  • Click on the associated object or contact to view, modify, or delete the relationship as needed.
