Experiment: Waiving Premium Action/Trigger Charges for Selected Marketplace Apps

Stack introduces usage-based pricing for developers, allowing them to set prices for their custom actions and triggers per execution. As part of an ongoing experiment, Stack is waiving the usual premium action/trigger charges for a select group of developers and their apps, limiting the cost to the developer's set price.

Why This Experiment?

The value of an action or trigger often depends on the service it supports. Some services, such as email or phone validation, cost less than $0.01 per execution, but the platform fee can make them expensive. By removing the Stack fee, we aim to reduce costs for you, the end user. This approach encourages the use of features and services from the App Marketplace in your workflows by offering lower and more transparent pricing.

What This Means for You

Developer-Set Usage-Based Pricing

If a developer is part of this experiment and has enabled usage-based pricing, you will see a per-execution charge set by them for their app's custom actions and triggers.

Pricing Variations

  • Participating Apps: These apps will not include the Stack premium fee. You'll only pay the developer's usage-based price.
  • Non-Participating Apps: For apps not in the experiment, you might see two charges: the developer's price and the platform fee.

Selection Criteria for Developers and Apps

Developers and apps were chosen based on:

  • Growth Potential: Apps with the potential to expand in the Marketplace and developers likely to create multiple apps using custom actions/triggers.
  • Usage Potential: Apps expected to increase in usage, providing significant value to users.

What to Expect

No Additional Premium Fees on Selected Apps

The usual Stack charge of $0.01 per execution for premium actions/triggers is waived for selected apps. However, you will still pay a usage-based fee set by the developer.

Increased Variety of Integrations

Expect more developers to list their apps, offering a broader range of features, services, and integrations in the Marketplace.

FAQs

Will this affect the quality or reliability of the apps?

No, this experiment only impacts the fees charged by Stack. Developers remain responsible for the quality and reliability of their integrations.

What if I have questions about a developer’s usage-based pricing?

Pricing is set by each developer. Contact them directly via their support channels or check their documentation for more details.

When will this experiment end?

This is a temporary initiative. We will update you on any changes. Selected apps may revert to the standard Stack premium fee or continue on a revised plan based on the experiment's results.
